There are three main tools to master when it comes to producing music or sound art of any genre. This covers the most important concept of all: EQ (Equalizer)

When you hear someone describing the highs, mids, or lows of a audio track, they are implying knowledge about EQ. EQ allows you to target and adjust specific frequencies inside an individual sound.

First when you think of a low sound, that’s a low frequency.

When you think of a high sound, that’s a high frequency.

Low Sound = Low Frequency

High Sound = High Frequency

Why does EQ software and hardware look so different and confusing?

Understand the basics, and it makes it so much easier to understand the whole highly opinionated world of EQ.

If you focus on the underlying concept of what EQ, then you can turn this understanding into a wonderful skill that helps with not only producing, but hearing in general.
